My interest in photography started when I took a photography course in high school and was given a camera by my parents when I graduated. Since then, I always enjoyed taking photos but it was not until my wife Carrie and I moved to Duluth Minnesota in 1998 that I discovered my passion for photography. Kayaking on Lake Superior, paddling my canoe and leading winter trips in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and Quetico, I was continuously exposed to the beauty of northern Minnesota and Canada and enjoyed the challenge of capturing those images to share with others.
I am fortunate to have good friends who are accomplished outdoor photographers. They have helped me understand the more complicated aspects of photography and inspired me to make it more than just a hobby. Thanks Gary, Sparky, and Ryan.
Jobs moved my wife and I to Cambridge Minnesota, I made the switch to digital photography (thanks to my brother-in-law CJ), and we had two beautiful daughters, Caiya and Cuincy. Digital photography offered a lot more opportunity for experimenting and the question “Did I get the shot?” was answered immediately. The kids make every outing an adventure. No matter if it is a walk in the back yard or a trip to Canada, they open your eyes to things you probably would not have seen. This fueled my passion to be an outdoor photographer.
As a result, at the end of January 2006, three friends and I embarked on a 100 mile journey across Quetico Provincial Park in Canada. In addition, I launched my new business, C5 Adventure Photography. On the trek, I had the opportunity to spend 2 weeks with professional adventure photographer, Gary McGuffin. Together we compiled over 700 digital images of a successful trek and I took my photography to the next level.
C5 stands for: Chris, Carrie, Caiya, Cuincy, and our dog Canu, my inspiration and support. I hope that my images encourage you to embark on your own adventures big or small.
I specialize in adventure, event, and nature photography. Whether it is a trip into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, a grueling triathlon you trained all winter for, or simply a scenic sunset at your favorite spot, I welcome the opportunity to capture your next adventure. You can contact me at:
